First Pres is an open community where all are welcome, no matter where you are on your spiritual journey. Attire is pretty casual; jeans, shorts, and business casual are all very appropriate. If you have any questions prior to worshiping with us, please feel free to contact Pastor Rob Martin at email@example.com or 650-325-5659, ext. 102.
Before joining us on Sunday, you might want to check out this map of our church campus: Map of First Pres Campus
Early Church is an intimate worship experience following the spirit of the early church that is held at 8:30 AM in the Chapel. It is a venture in “creating church,” taking its name from its gathering time (early on Sunday mornings) and its aspiration (to capture the spirit of the earliest Christians). This service features prayer and discussion of the lectionary text for the day.
Adult Study is our adult educational program that begins at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall. It is a lecture-style class led by a pastoral staff member, during which questions and discussions are welcome. Though there are often adult study series, each session will not rely on your knowledge of the previous one, so newcomers are always welcome!
Adults, children, & youth are welcome to experience the Communal Worship service together from 10:30-11:30 AM. Feel free to keep your infant or toddler with you in the service. Our “children’s nook” in the back of the sanctuary contains books, toys, and coloring pages to engage children during the service. There is also plenty of room in the back of the sanctuary for wiggly kids to run around and play. Children can remain in the sanctuary for the whole service, or leave after the children’s message for Sunday School (see below).
Every week, our Communal Worship service looks a little different, but it always includes prayers, hymns or songs, Scripture readings, a sermon (the prompting), and an offering. We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of the month, where all are welcome to the table. During the offertory, participants are invited to not only offer monetary gifts, but also to bring tangible gifts of canned food to be given to the Palo Alto Food Closet. If you would like to learn more about our church and ministries, feel free to fill out a visitor card from the back of the pew in front of you and place it in the offering plate during the offertory.
Children of all ages are welcome to leave the communal worship service after the children’s sermon and attend Sunday School class in Classrooms 1 from 10:45- 11:30AM. Their lessons consist of an opening activity, watching an interactive retelling of the day’s Bible story, reading the story in the Bible, and playing games or making artwork to help reinforce the story. Children of all ages, from toddlers to middle school, are welcome to join us for this age-appropriate worship time.
Following the communal worship service, coffee and treats are provided in the back of the sanctuary. All are welcome to stay to enjoy tasty snacks and engaging conversation.
